Day 6 & 7 - Austin TX

Yesterday we had a nice slow morning and enjoyed some breakfast and coffee at the hotel before we went to lunch with Pastor George Tuthill and his wife Melissa. Of course we had to get some more BBQ. Might as well get as much Texas BBQ as possible while we are here…right?

After lunch we headed to the church to have a lengthy discussion with the TCCA church staff on what authentic worship is. It was engaged, insightful, and a great time of learning what each of us think about worship and explore a little more in depth about what God wants from us as worship.

Later that night we held an evangelism training (led by Dale Elwell with music led by Brad Bates). We spent the evening with several members of TCCA (as well as their leadership) learning ways to share the gospel through gospel conversations in their community. This was largely in preparation for what we were going to do today.

This morning we had another nice slow morning where we could enjoy the company of one another here at the hotel over some sausage, eggs, and coffee. Matt and Brad went to Guitar Center to pick up some musical supplies, and then we headed to the church to meet up with the TCCA members who would be going to the apartment complex with us today to share the gospel.

Around 1 we arrived at the apartment complex and began set up. There were a few set backs with regards to power supply, but we were able to work through that with some gracious neighbors who let us run power off of their porch.

Once we got set up we began to serve lunch to many of the residents of the apartment building. After food was handed out the OneDayNow band (made up of many of the CCM team members) started to play a mix of covers and originals.

After OneDayNow Drew Elwell was able to share the gospel with the entire complex. There were many kids and adults present in the square where we were, but there were also many others coming out on their balconies and opening their windows to hear what was going on. Dale got up after Drew and did some of his original raps which connected the gospel in a musical way to the residents. A local hispanic pastor got up after Dale and delivered the gospel in Spanish for the Spanish speaking residents of the neighborhood.

It is our understanding that there were 6 residents saved today! Praise the Lord!

Once the event was over we loaded up, headed back to the Church and helped the team unload. After unloading the gear at the church Zach Tuthill took the team to Rudy’s BBQ (yes…we had MORE Texas BBQ today) where we got some amazing BBQ and got to fellowship some with Zach and his wife Veronica.

We are now back at the hotel relaxing and preparing for tomorrows events, which will including preaching and music for the Sunday gathering, break out sessions after the gathering, and then Dale doing some rapping at a ministry gathering of homeless people in the area.

Stay tuned!
